Frequently Asked Questions
What services are offered at Serenity?
Individual, couple's, and family therapy sessions are provided.
Do you offer after-hours or weekend appointments? Yes and no. This is determined by each clinician and changes from time to time. Currently, Dr. Hutchins is accepting new clients M-F from 9:00-2:00 PM ONLY with the last appointment of the day scheduling at 1:00-2:00. Dr. Hutchins currently offers NO after-hours or weekend availability for NEW clients except for telehealth appointments. Rhonda Roush LPC and Dr. Morvan offer evening appointments as available with their current caseload and clinical availability. Once you are an established client, each clinician works with each person on a case-by-case basis to determine what appointment works best for
How long is a counseling session?
Typically, a session is an hour. Sometimes, sessions are longer if a crisis or trauma has occurred or if there is a situation with significant emotional reactivity. Marital sessions are usually 1.5-2 hours in length.
Are sessions covered by insurance?
Yes, we are in network with several insurance companies. You will be responsible for your portion of the service, if applicable, including a copay, coinsurance, or deductible. Each client is required to put a credit card on file for session charges, which are run after the session and to sign a financial policy regarding this requirement. We view clients reluctant to place a card on file as not ready to commit to the working alliance of psychotherapy.
Serenity is in network with:
-Blue Cross Blue Shield...currently accepting new clients
-Aetna...currently accepting new clients
Check with your individual plan to know your benefits. It is a good idea to check with your insurance company ahead of time so that you know your benefits. We do the best we can to assist you on this, but ultimately it is your responsibility to understand your coverage and pay for all services received.
Why do you not accept my insurance?
Unfortunately, many insurances pay providers below the market rate of services, and we are unable to accept these reimbursement rates for our time. We are sorry that we are unable to accept all insurances. Please call your insurance company if this negatively affects you and advocate for them to pay fair market value for your services.
What do I need to find out from my insurance company about my plan?
We encourage our clients to check their benefits to understand coverage and payment requirements; however, we are also happy to assist you in this process. Ultimately, it is the client's responsibility to understand their benefits and to keep us updated if any of the benefits change; if insurance denies coverage for any reason, it is the client's responsibility to pay for the charges out of pocket, in full. Ask if you have a copay or coinsurance. A copay is a set rate that you will owe per session. A coinsurance is a percentage of the session cost that you will owe for each session. Also ask if you have a deductible to meet. If you have a deductible, then you will pay that amount out of pocket at the allowable rate until the deductible is met. A deductible is different than your out of pocket cost.

How much money will the sessions cost?
Our session rates are determined by your insurance company's allowable rate if we are in-network or have negotiated an agreement. If you have already met your deductible or do not have a deductible, you will only be responsible for your copay or coinsurance at the time of service (usually this is between $20-40 per session). Standard session rates reimburse at $189.00 for an hour. This price may vary according to the allowable amount as determined by BCBS or other insurances. Couple's sessions are 250.00 an hour. Individual sessions that are longer than an hour are prorated at the price insurance determines for us. If you have a deductible that has not been met, you will be responsible for the full session fee at the time of service. We would be happy to assist you in determining your benefits and walking you through this process so that there are no surprises about the amount you will be responsible for.

How many sessions will I attend?
The number of sessions you will need is dependent on the issue you are working on and how well we feel you are responding to the treatment. Some people attend weekly or biweekly appointments while others prefer to attend every 4-6 weeks. This is something that we will decide upon your initial session and continue to monitor as treatment progresses. Sometimes people attend frequently at first and then take a break from therapy until they feel they need to come back. Your treatment will be specifically tailored to meet your needs.

What types of payment are accepted at Serenity?
Cash, Credit/Debit Card, or Check.
What is the policy for cancelled or missed appointments?
There is a preferred 48-hour cancellation policy. There is an enforced less than 24-hour cancellation policy penalty. If you do not cancel (or reschedule) your appointment with at least a 24-hour notice, you will be charged the full session fee. You will also be charged the same full session fee for no show appointments. Some exceptions can be made in emergency situations. This is evaluated on a case by case basis by the practice owner. To schedule your initial appointment, you will be required to pay a $50.00 deposit that will be applied toward session charges. We only keep this money if you no-show or cancel less than 24 hours before the appointment.
What should I expect at or how can I be prepared for my first appointment?
Arrive a few minutes early or prepare to stay a few minutes after your appointment to complete your intake paperwork. Along with standard forms, please bring your insurance card and picture identification. Please also bring copies of any pertinent information you would like to share, such as doctor's reports, previous psychological testing reports, or court documentation. During the first appointment, you will be asked a lot of questions about what you would like help with and perhaps about your background. You will also be given the chance to ask questions or voice concerns about psychotherapy. After the first meeting, you will have a pretty good idea about what to expect in future sessions. Most people are a little anxious or excited about the first session and report that with each session they grow more comfortable with the process and the therapeutic relationship. Be careful not to assume that nervousness about attending means that seeking help is a bad idea.
What is the best way to schedule an appointment?
SUBMIT AN ONLINE INQUIRY. Please include a safe email address for us to correspond with you at, your telephone number, your insurance type (i.e., BCBS or Aetna) and your insurance ID number, preferred provider (if applicable) and preferred days and times for meeting. We do not check voice messages daily, as each provider has their own business telephone line given to each client. If you do choose to call, please briefly tell the nature of your call and a good time to call you back. If you are calling to schedule an appointment, you can also tell us the best days/times for you. We prefer all new appointments to submit an inquiry online.
If you are having a crisis or an emergency that requires immediate attention, please call 911 or go to the nearest hospital. It is possible that you could leave a message that is not checked for a few days if the providers are out of the office.
